As Executive Vice President of the South Florida PBA, David Greenwell assists the President in fulfilling organizational duties and undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned. With over three decades of distinguished service in the Miami-Dade Police Department, Greenwell is widely respected for his leadership, dedication, and lasting contributions to law enforcement.
Throughout his career, he has received more than 195 commendations, including the Silver Medal of Valor, Lifesaving Award, Exceptional Service Award, Officer of the Year Award, and four Officer of the Month Awards. He has also been deeply involved in memorial and charitable efforts, serving as Co-Chairman of the Miami-Dade County Police Memorial for 18 years and continuing to volunteer for the Police Officer Assistance Trust and other law enforcement charities.
In recognition of his remarkable service, the Miami-Dade County Office of the Mayor and Board of County Commissioners proclaimed November 20, 2015 as “Sergeant David Greenwell Day.”
Work Experience
- 1982 – Joined the Miami-Dade Police Department.
- Served in the Cutler Ridge District and as a Firearms Instructor with the Training Bureau.
- Worked as a Detective in the Safe Streets Unit and Transit Special Investigations Unit.
- Promoted from Corporal to Sergeant in the Kendall District.
- Served as Kendall Team Police Sergeant and Robbery Bureau RID Sergeant.
- Traffic Homicide Unit Supervisor for the Homicide Bureau for 16 years (most recognized role).
- 1997–2015 – Co-Chairman, Miami-Dade County Police Memorial.
- Continues to volunteer for POAT and other charitable law enforcement organizations.
